Alec Icky Dunn is one of my favorite book reccomenders. These he loaned me. “I want these back”. So, you know they’re good if they make his permanent library. I read them quickly and still think about both of them.

Free: A Child and a Country at the End of History Hardcover - Lea Ypi

A memoir set in Albania, before and after the fall of the Socialist society when the author is 10 years old. She is excellent at giving descriptions from a perspective of young logic and awakening of the greater world as it changes beyond her sense of possiblity, both with hope and then without it.

Alphabet of Thorn - Patricia A. McKillip

Multiple point-of-view fantasy about a young queen who is misunderstood and underestimated, an orphan translator, suspect mages and the story of ancient mythic heros. Excellent story weaving. Excellent tribute to books and reading and the strengths of quiet.
